Relevant, and yet...
It is always good to see something other than a gore soaked violence fest on NG. I think that this film is a condensed amalgomation of the author's thoughts on facist rulers of the past and the parallels they draw to American leaders of today. While a highly symbolic approach such as this is generally an effective method of handling a topic of this magnitude, some of the effectiveness is lost when the design elements fail to come together. The film was well paced for such a short run time, but I got no sense of weary tension or desperate, animalistic hopelesseness. These elements are crucial when conducting the audience's emotions. The pallette chosen was highly ineffective and the charecter design was crude, giving the film a coarse and uneven tone. The reason I give this film an eight, however, is that there was a substantial undercurrent of thoughtfulness to the piece. You could really tell that there was a true passion in this film's conception. Good, but could have been better with more polish.
